Anxiety, Trauma, Betrayal, and Substance Use Counseling

Anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use do not always happen separately. They can affect one another, making it difficult to understand what is keeping you stuck or where to begin. I work with preteens, teens, and adults experiencing these concerns, whether you are facing one particular difficulty or several challenges at once.

I also support people experiencing betrayal trauma following infidelity or a partner's sexually compulsive behavior. Therapy can offer space to process the hurt and uncertainty, strengthen coping skills and boundaries, and consider what you need moving forward. My experience also includes working with individuals experiencing problematic sexual behavior.

I take a whole-person approach to counseling. That means looking beyond symptoms to understand your experiences, relationships, daily demands, strengths, and the barriers affecting your mental health. We can work together to identify what needs attention and find manageable steps toward change.

My approach combines practical skills with opportunities for deeper understanding. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and DBT skills to help clients recognize patterns in thoughts, feelings, and actions, manage emotional overwhelm, and develop coping strategies. Psychodynamic and family systems approaches also inform how we explore the influence of earlier experiences and relationships. Trauma-informed care guides the pace and direction of our work.

I earned my master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an addiction specialization, from Marquette University and my bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Iowa. My experience includes inpatient work with children and adolescents and outpatient care for adults experiencing both substance use and mental health concerns.

As a temporarily licensed mental health counselor at Full Heart Family Therapy in Ankeny, I provide individual therapy with an approach shaped around your needs and goals. Contact office@fullheartfamilytherapy.com to ask about fit, openings, and getting started.
